Mary Yockey raised in Loveland, Colorado. Mary has two older brothers, Rob and Don. Mary started gymnastics when she was 5 years old and continued through high school on it until she had a back injury (hairline stress fracture in one of the bertebrae). She also competed in Track & Field in high school. 
Mary married Darren and became Mary Conradson during college, but was divorced in 1996. Mary also went for a short while to cosmetology school, but eventually got a job as a real estate agent. Mary first started in bodybuilding, competing in 1995 in the Aloha Classic and winning the lightweight division. She switched to fitness about a year later.
On January 24, 2000, Mary married Ed Rust in Mexico. On September 17, 2000, Ed & Mary welcomed Logan Edward Rust into the family.
